Colorado Anti-fracking Movement Heating Up!
by: Lotus Posted on: September 08, 2013
Editor’s Note: A run down of the towns and counties in Colorado that are passing laws in opposition to the industrial gas extraction method known as hydraulic fracturing.
Lafayette: complete rights based Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund-style, oil, gas and hydrofracking ban will be on the ballot this November.
City of Boulder: a 5-year oil and gas-drilling moratorium will be on the ballot this November.
Boulder County: a 1.5-year oil and gas-drilling moratorium is currently in effect, and started a couple of months or so ago.
Broomfield: a 5-year oil and gas-drilling moratorium will be on the ballot this November.
Fort Collins: a 5-year oil and gas-drilling moratorium will be on the ballot this November.
Loveland: 2-year oil and gas-drilling moratorium petitions were turned in, but the petition is being challenged. If the challenge is not successful, then this moratorium will be on the ballot this November.
Longmont: Passed a ban in November 2012 that is still in court based on both the hydrofracking ban and the oil and gas regulations; and both cases are likely to be in court a long time.
Colorado Springs: complete rights based Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund-style, oil, gas and hydrofracking ban still in court based on the petition language having been rejected by the Title Board, and is likely to be in court a long time.
